Galaxy Cluster in Aries

This galaxy cluster is about half a billion light years away. The Abell catalog gives it a count of 35 galaxies, many of which are labeled here in the roll-over image. The larger versions of this image show many more tiny galaxies. Some of these may be smaller members of the galaxy cluster, and other may be much farther away in the distant background.

Variations of this image were used to make a comparison of 1x1 versus 2x2 binning at different total exposure times, as shown here.

Magnitude of 10th brightest galaxy 15.1
Distance (light yrs) 490 million
Right Ascension 2:57.0
Declination +15 57
Field of View 40' x 27'

Image details: 135 exposures of 120 seconds each (4.5 hours total), taken with a ZWO ASI2600MC Pro imager and a 14" Meade LX850 telescope at f/5.6.
