The geomagnetic storm that produced such a nice auroral display in the early morning hours of August 12 had weakened substantially by the time darkness arrived on the following evening. Still, there was a small bit of auroral activity, seen here as the pink glow above the northern horizon. Although it showed up photographically, not much could be seen visually.
