This was one of the best auroral displays I have seen. We went to a hill in Durham that had a good view to the north, but as it turned out the aurora filled much of the sky. A deep burgundy color started to appear as soon as the evening sky began to darken, and i the colors grew more and more intense. The peak of the display lasted for well over an hour, and then more subdued lights contined for several more hours. The brightness and intensity of the reds was incredible, and other colors were vivid as well.
