Comet Halley, 1986   HOME INDEX BACK NEXT

Comet Halley is probably the most famous comet. It has been observed by humans for over 2000 years. It orbits the Sun once every 76 years. During its last visit to the inner solar system in 1985-1986, I was not well equipped to do good astrophotography, but I did take some pictures as the comet passed by.

This picture was taken from my backyard in Sharon, MA before dawn in March, 1986. The trailed stars of Sagittarius are seen, and Comet Halley is just appearing above the treetops in the bottom of the image.
