Lunar Eclipse of May 15, 2022   HOME INDEX BACK NEXT

Here in Killingworth CT, we were able to see only the first half of this lunar eclipse because clouds covered the Moon after around midnight. This video begins at around 9:28 pm EDT and ends at 11:40 pm. It shows the Earth's shadow crossing the Moon from left to right, beginning with the light penumbra followed by the much darker umbra. The exposure duration is increased to 5 seconds at the end of the video to show the reddish coloration of the eclipsed Moon and several nearby stars.

Image details: Based on exposures ranging from 1/400 to 5 seconds with a Canon T6i camera and a 500-mm lens.
