Galaxies in Cetus
NGC 1016 is a large elliptical galaxy in Cetus, surrounded by a number of smaller galaxies that were bright enough to make it into the NGC catalog of deep-sky objects.
At magnitude 11.6, NGC 1016 is bright enough to be seen in typical amateur telescopes. Many years ago, I observed this galaxy through my 18-inch Dobsonian telescope as fuzzy circular glow with a brighter center. I was also able to spot several of the smaller galaxies nearby, though they were quite dim.
