Planetary Nebula in Delphinus
This image of the Blue Flash Nebula shows a bright oval center that has a mottled appearance, plus two cone-shaped extensions stretching roughly north and south. This gives the entire object the shape of an human eye.
The two dim extensions are not normally visible through the eyepiece of typical backyard telescope, so it has an oblong shape with fuzzy edges and some hints of internal structure. The central star is magnitude 14 and has been seen visually with larger telescopes.
