Sun halo, bright at top and bottom   HOME INDEX BACK NEXT

Sun halos are always interesting to see, and this one was unusual because of the bright straight-line portions at the top and bottom of the halo. There may be a name for these specific features but I couldn't find it. Sun halos are produced when sunlight is reflected by hexagonal ice crystals in high altitude cirrus clouds.
