It was Halloween. A neighbor knocked on our door and said, "I am not here for Trick or Treat. I know you are interested in astronomy, and I thought you might want to know that there is an aurora in the sky right now."
We went outside immediately and enjoyed the display. It consisted of white streaks of light stretching in various directions from the northern horizon. In this image, looking to the northeast, the bright star is Capella in the constellation Auriga.
