Comet Hale-Bopp, April 10, 1997   HOME INDEX BACK NEXT

This view to the northwest after sunset includes a unique array of celestial objects.  On the right is Comet Hale-Bopp, and on the left is the overexposed crescent Moon, perfectly centered within the V-shaped Hyades cluster, which forms the horns of Taurus, the bull.  In the center, dropping just below the treetops, are the Pleiades.  To top it off, it appears that a short but bright meteor streaked through the sky above the comet during this exposure.

Image details:  A short exposure on Kodak Gold 1000 film, taken with a Canon camera and a 50-mm.
