Supernova remnant in Cygnus
The Veil Nebula is what remains of a supernova that exploded about 10,000 years ago. It now covers a diameter of about 3 degrees of sky. If its estimated distance of 2,400 light years is accurate, this means the nebula has a diameter of about 130 light years. This image shows its two brightest sections to the upper left and lower right, plus some of the fainter segments in between.
